Are You A RichLifer?

by Beau Henderson

We had such a great radio show this weekend!! Quite a few folks actually 'fessed up that they are RichLifers!! What IS a RichLifer? Here is the definition that I came up with …. let me know if this is how YOU are living your life … I would love to feature YOUR story on the show!

RichLifer  – someone who is making the commitment to be the best version of themselves that God created them to be while choosing to live rich right now!!

Juli with The RichLife after completing The Nashville Country Music Marathon which raised a lot of money for St Jude to help kids fighting cancer!

Tonya's children make her life Rich! Her special needs child is one of the biggest blessings in her life! "Thank you Beau! Thank you for being an encouragement and sharing your gift with me and so many people! Keep shining that light and opening doors of "richness" to others ♥"

RichLifers all have similar life philosophies. They believe in and are committed to:

  • God is good all of the time!!
  • There is ALWAYS something to be grateful for regardless of what their current circumstances look like right now!
  • They are living rich right now! They don't play the "When I … Then I" game. They choose to enjoy the moments of life NOW because yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not guaranteed!

It seems as though all RichLifers are just a whole lot happier and find their lives far more fulfilling than people who are still struggling with thoughts of "I'm capable of doing more. I know I can do a whole lot better than I'm doing right now. Or even, I know I was meant to do more."

After working with 3,000 financial planning clients over the past 13 years and coaching dozens of Financial Advisors every week for the past several years, the best way that I have found to help people work their way through those questions for themselves is to get them started with the foundational principles that are discussed in our best-selling book, "The RichLife – 10 Investments For True Wealth". We have received dozens of emails and comments from our subscribers, friends and clients telling us that they FINALLY were able to read a "financial book" that made sense to them, that has given them a whole new perspective on what "being rich" is really all about!

How do you become rich? What is it that makes the ULTIMATE difference between those who achieve their RichLife and those who do not?

Most people have it all wrong. It is seldom luck or inheritance or advanced degrees or even intelligence that enables people to amass fortunes. There is one thing YOU CAN DO regardless of age or income, and it will make the greatest difference between changing your life and not changing your life. It is Hard/Easy – what I call the Master Investment! The application of Hard/Easy is a call to action!! Wealth, more often than not, is a result of a lifestyle of hard work, perseverance, planning, and, most of all, choosing to develop the self-discipline needed to delay immediate gratification in favor of having long-term financial freedom.

The paradox is that we often take on debt thinking somehow we will be happy, but what most people really want is FREEDOM! The more debt we have, the more we are enslaved to that debt. The more enslaved to debt we are, the more we restrict having financial freedom. I think it's time to learn the lessons and break that cycle ….

If you don't like where you are at financially,
then maybe it is time for you to change the way you think about MONEY!

In my experiences dealing with millionaires and the retirement plans of thousands of individuals, I can tell you that money alone doesn’t equal happiness and money alone never will.

Truth is, money by itself neither causes happiness or stress.

Money by itself is neutral.

It is what you do with money that either causes happiness or causes stress. You can even make the choice to view your debt this way by managing it instead of letting it cause stress and worry in your life. This demonstrates both good stewardship and big-picture thinking.

The context in which money is used has
nothing at all to do with the money itself,
and everything to do with the person using it!

Recently I spoke with author and senior pastor Dr. Tom Smiley, creator of the ministry Life with Smiles. It is his mission to see people live their lives to their fullest potential, and when discussing the context of money, Tom came up with following 5 tips to help avoid confusing material things with the components of true wealth. These tips are right in line with the RichLife principles for living rich.

1.  Don’t become too proud of your stuff. Nothing we have is ours to keep. At the end of the day, or the end of our life, we own nothing.

2.  If you can’t give it away, then it owns you. This can be a tough one, but keep yourself in check by asking yourself, would I be any less of a person without it?

3.  Don’t put your trust in money. Money alone will not get you what you want. The relationships and unique experiences that you create with others give back memories more valuable than all the money in the bank.

4.  Use your money for the right reasons. It is important to note here that money earned in a way that harms others will in turn only harm yourself. And the converse is also true – money used in the service of others will only increase and help you to become more prosperous. It all depends on context.

5.  Give cheerfully, with the expectation of receiving nothing in return. You can’t be a giver and be materialistic at the same time.

View those dollars in the bank in terms of how they are used,
how they will help you get to where you want to go,
and the good they can do for others!

Keep this always foremost in mind when committing to the hard/easy of paying down your debt. And reward yourself for staying on track by spending time with the people you care about! A walk in the park, a night under the stars – it doesn’t have to cost you one penny to make an investment in a relationship important to you.

Money by itself should never be given priority over the people it was meant to serve.

Money is a tool to help you get from where you are, to where you want to be.
And as a tool, its purpose is to serve you!
